Heater blower resistor location
#1
Hi folks,

So the heater blower isn't working. I've taken out the blower and cleaned the cabin air filter, and when I tested the connection to the blower I there was no voltage, so I gather it must be the resistor. But for the life of me I can't find where the heater resistor is! Can anybody suggest where I might find it? Pictures of the blower, and underneath the passenger footwell attached.

Secondly, in attempting to diagnose the problem I was looking for the relay, but I could only find what looks like an empty plug for it (bottom left here, in green). Is it possible it's been lost somehow and this has caused the problem? I don't know how the heater could have worked without it!

Feeling very lost! Any help appreciated

This thread should help:

Bear in mind there were different resistor packs depending on whether the vehicle had air-con or not.

Also with regard to the missing relay. Was the blower previously working OK? If so, it's unlikely that the relay had just fallen out and you not noticed it, as it is quite a chunky component. What I'm saying is that might not be the relay base for the blower, it might be for something else not used on your vehicle?

I didn't have to delve into the blower/heater system on my M59 but on my B9 I did  and the relay for the blower on the B9 model was on a panel above and behind the glove box on the passenger side [I'm assuming you have a right hand drive vehicle]

There is another heater relay/resistor mounted on the top of the front coolant radiator on a B9 with A/C

This is the resistor mounted in/on the heater motor.

This is the resistor mounted on the front radiator , This is slightly awkward to get to but not too difficult without taking the bumper off.

This is the heater relay mounted above the passenger side fuse box. Nice green colour, this is what melted/blew on mine.

I changed them all just in case the first relay went because one of the others was faulty.

All good info but the question was in the M59 forum, so I'm assumimg the OP was referring to the M59 model?

I did not realise it was a M59 he was talking about , when you mentioned a B9 I thought I know where the resistors are on that model.

Some updates:

Yes it's an M59 model, and I think I've been on a wild goose chase looking for the resistor. On one of the peugeot forums someone pointed out: there is no resistor on A/C model it has an electronic speed controller built into blower motor assembly. !

The giveaway was the 4 pin plug, whereas most blowers only have two.

Here's the blower motor from above. Can anyone suggest how I'd test it to make sure it works? There are videos for normal motors in abundance, but not this type. Should it run freely when I turn it? At the moment there's a bit of resistance.

Regarding the relay: the heater was working without it, so I've gone ahead and left it without putting a replacement in. In time I'll know whether that works or not.
