M59 unlocking itself
#1
Hi, so my 04 plate 1.6 16v m59 latest issue is it's started unlocking itself.

Was doing it intermittently but its constant now and the only way to keep it locked is to quickly disconnect the battery after locking it.

I have a suspicion it may have something to do with some water ingress when I changed the windscreen which has now been stopped.

BSI is dry.

Does anyone know if the receiver for the central locking remote is up near the front interior light, like pug 306's used to be?

Thanks.

Not had any experience of the 1.6 petrol engine but is there an engine bay fusebox, as in the diesel models? If so, it's likely that it is not only a fusebox but also has an electronic circuit board that communicates with the BSI to carry out numerous functions. These engine bay boxes [on many different PSA group vehicles, not only Berlingo] are susceptible to fluid damage which can cause all sorts of strange electrical problems. For example on my 2008 Berlingo I had the random operation of the wipers and the headlamps turning themselves on when the vehicle was parked up, with the ignition key out! Like you, the only way to stop my strange faults was to disconnect the battery.

So I would say start with the engine bay fuse/electronics box to check for any signs of water damage. Switch the car off, wait for it to go into sleep mode, then disconnect the battery and check the engine bay fusebox fuses by pulling them out one at a time and checking for any corrosion on the fuse blades or in the socket the fuse plugs into. If any corrosion found clean up with electrical contact cleaner and make sure the whole area is dry. That might solve your problem. In my case it didn't as the circuit board was too badly corroded, so I sourced a complete [used] replacement box [If you go down this route make sure you get the EXACT same part number, as the boxes were used in many PSA group vehicles and are not interchageable] and replaced the whole thing [no coding to vehicle necessary]

Thanks multispacer not the problem I've got/had but will try and waterproof that lot to avoid future bother. I managed to fix it hopefully, it's behaved itself for 3 days now so touch wood. Saw a post on here that mentioned the door catches themselves so been round and lubed all of them up and as I say touch wood its sorted.
