Engine Fan Running
#1
I have a 2014 1.6 hdi (9pf) engine

More often than not when i turn the van off the fanss still running for a bit..sometimes its fast sometimes its slow

No running issues or warning messages

Just clocked 149k and runs well

Only issue which i tihnk is linked on the diagnostic machine well pc with the citroen/peugeot software it says something to the effect

DPF ash content 100% replace- and the eolys isnt being added?

Assume its all linked..can anyone advise please

Rather get an issue resolved than leave it..Still drives and pulls well...fuel economy seems to have dropped a little but could be me Confused

149,000 just right for the eolys to have run out , fan running could be trying regen, with no eolys .

I have heard others say that if you stop the vehicle whilst it’s trying to do a DPF regeneration then the fan will continue runnng in order to dissipate the excess heat.

The Eolys Fluid (PAT Fluid) is added to the fuel tank when you replace the fuel cap (as in after adding fuel). As far as I know this is a magnet and reed switch arrangement.
I.e. there is a magnet in the fuel cap.

If the Eolys Fluid runs out then you should get a warning message and warning lights. AFAIK the level is determined by keeping track of how much has been dispensed and NOT a level sensor.

The Eolys Fluid allows DPF Regeneration (Soot Burnoff) at a lower temperature.

Also, I think, that for a regeneration cycle to complete you need to drive for 5 minutes at above 40 mph once everything is upto temperature. If your usage doesn’t encompass this then it might not be regenerating (cleaning) the DPF.

Thankyou all, it'll have to go in to the garage i think and let them sort it out, long gone are the days of me repairiing it, My head can do it..it's all i know from school it's just the body says otheriwse...
Bloody hate anybody else working on my van..except my good old mate who owns his own garage...has exactly the same attention to details as i had when repairing vehicles...something which in this day and age has long been lost...the machine says this sir so it must be right!

Yeah my sentiments exactly. Id rather have my prostate examined in an old fashioned way than put my car into a garage for it to drive out with more issues than it when with!!! The anger I feel when I find something theyve done to my beloved Berlinda is nothing short of The Incredible Hulk on steroids!!! Dont make me angry 'vehicle technician', you wont like me when Im angry!! I just dont have the time or inclination to explain a list of conditions to them working on my car before I drop it off... I know I know, Im a crank!!

As for the over run of your fan, Mines been doing that for last 5 years (since I bought it), and just assumed it was exactly that, a over run to cool the engine similar to the fan in your bathroom. Shes just turned the clock at 76000 miles and Ive done 25000 miles in that 5 years. No warnings, no lights...nothing. I do live in Scotland so its bypasses everywhere meaning she regularly hits 60-70mph. That said, from when these DPF models where released some years ago, I remember being told to drive at 60mph for half hour to blast out the DPF and do it regularly to keep it clear, which I do as a matter of travel.

My girl drives ticketyboo. Keep us updated on your experience... Cheers
