Odd Tyre Wear anbd Locking wheel Studs
#1
Just had two new tyres put on my 19 plate Vauxhall Combo Life.

The fitter said those Peugeot locking wheel studs I was concerned about them given the age they corrode and get difficult to take out you should change them for ordinary wheel studs. Hmmnn is this a thing??? Can it be got round???

Then onto unusual tyre wear. The two nearside tyres look to have worn more than the two offside tyres looks to be at least 1mm more tread on front and back offside tyres, asked could it be cornering which I dont do at speed, he said he didnt think so nor the tracking as the wear isnt obvious on one side of the tyre. Has anyone come across that. The tyres were Rapids and the vehicle is ex mobility with just under 29000 on the clock.

Any thoughts???

Incorrect tracking is a given for 10plus years now, I’ve never suffered issues with locking wheel bolts though.
Maybe the bolt covers on Citroen versions stops them from rusting ??

Wait until the spotty adolescent chimp at the tyre shop runs an air wrench over them
It is on my to do list.

Agree, wheel bolts are nearly always overtightened, ive never seen a tyre fitter use a torque wrench, overtightened can cause stress corrosion and make it difficult to get the bolts off, poor quality wheel bolts (often locking ones) might be 'high tensile' but the alloy is a bit rubbish, i always use very good quality bolts and ALWAYS torque them myself.
