Gear number display

Hi

I have a strange issue where when I’m driving in automatic my display no longer shows what gear I’m in, instead it reads “ - - - “

Odd thing is when I switch to manual using the paddles it works correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening and steps I could take to resolve this? It’s not essential for current use, but it’s irritating and would be an issue when it comes to selling
