heater down
#1
I turned the heater button for some heat and nothing!!  I checked several fuses and they seem fine.  I assume I located the correct fuses.
It is the rotary speed switch.

Is the heater motor running ? The resistor on the heater motor sometimes packs up, easy to replace. There are a lot of posts on here about it and how to replace them.

As @brodfather11 has stated, common causes are the heater resistor pack. located in the airflow duct, which on RHD cars is a bit awkward to get at as it is in the duct on the drivers side footwell, other common cause is the heater relay, which is in the area above and behind the glovebox on the passenger side, again a bit awkward to get at. Less common but sometimes does happen is actual motor failure, or the motor can just 'stick' if you haven't had the blower heater on for many months and the grease can solidify and the motor cannot overcome the resistance.

Never heard of it being the actual switch in all the posts over the years on the forum.

Note that all of the videos seem to state you ned to remove the accelerator pedal, while it makes access easier, I didn't do it when I changed my resistor pack, as I had a small spanner that gave enough access to the bolt holding the resistor pack in place.

On mine, it was a combination of a mostly-seized motor, which in turn caused the resistor to fail. The first hint was that the blower didn't seem to do much unless on 3 or 4.

Neither are massively expensive to replace (used motor, new resistor), and aren't difficult either. Take the accelerator pedal out for access.

If you need to buy a new resistor (especially a cheap ebay one like I did), look -closely- at the base of it. It will probably need some minor modification to make it fit.

I went along the lines of changing things economically and I changed the resistor - nothing.  What a game to get to though.  Maybe I should have started with the motor.  I suppose if the car was on a lift it would have saved me having to be a contortionist.  I took the fan out and it would not respond to power so I fitted a new fan costing £19 and that solved the problem.  Again I had to do my contortions but at least the accelerator pedal stayed in place!

Yes, anything to do with the heating systems in a real pain on RHD vehicles, of course for LHD vehicles it is a lot easier as it is all in the passenger footwell and not obstructed by all the pedals/steering column etc.

As it wasn't the resistor, your old one is still serviceable, so you could always offer you old one for sale on this forum, as they do fail quite regaularly on PSA group vehicles of this era.
