Gearbox oil advice quickly please...?
#1
Got a 2014 63 plate 1.6 HDI Multispace XTR. 76k miles.

Need some dos & donts advice changing the gearbox oil and best product to use please? Cant find anything in the service manual other than to check the level. Some sau fill via a breather and others say fill in the filling point and allow to run out then it is full. Sounds too easy and with these cars nothing ever seems to be easy lol/

Some pics below Ive found others have used... Would any of these be ok?

Either oil will do SAE 75W-80W is recommended.

Fill up to the filler plug until it runs out. You may have to use a smaller container with a tube that will go into the filler hole.

You won't need a 5L container.

Not that I would usually recommend them for parts, but Halfords usually have 1L bottles on the shelf for £9. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine...51824.html

Top Tips,

Loosen the fill plug first.
A little heat can help with the drain plug.
The fill is the unusually-large bolt head on the endplate of the gearbox
Set the height by taking the OSF wheel off, and raising/lowering until it's level.
I found one of the small pump bottles helped, though a funnel and some tube can do the same.

In the service book they recommend Total for all lubricants. I always like to go wit oem recommendations for peace of mind so the total example I showed above will be used and about 2l of it.

An Oil Syringe will make life a lot easier when filling but the job is a breeze anyway
Just the undertray to remove which is a chore,so consider doing the engine oil at the same time.
Its never too soon to change the engine oil on a Dv6....
Pop the wheel off before you start and give the whole area a clean so dirt cant find its way into the filler.
Put a binbag over the disk in case yiu drip oil.
Catch tray should be wide as the splash can be unpredictable.

New washers advisable and not over-expensive off ebay
But you can still reuse the old ones-just overtighten the plugs to try and get a seal and strip the threads -Duh

Drain plug is a 21mm socket tightened to 35nm
Washer is copper 22x16x2 mm

Filler/levelling plug is 19mm socket tightened to 22nm
Washer is aluminium 22x14x2mm
Total Traxium Gear 8 75/80 Just shy of 2 litres
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Great evdama. Just about covered every point there lol. Much appreciated. Yes I am doing the engine oil also. Im assuming its beneficial to have gear oil hot/warm like engine oil when changing also?

Yes hotter is better
This is the correct oil unless you want an alternative but make sure its low saps and PSA spec.
3.75 litres  plus 250ml for the filter
Dump in In one go as it takes forever to register on the dipstick.

This is the genuine filter in a Mahle box.
You can get it from the citroen dealer in a citroen box for twice the price if you like

Oil filter housing is 27 mm  at 25nm
Drain plug is 21mm at 25nm
Washer is copper 20x10x2.

Slacken  the filter housing half a turn before removing the drain plug

Consider cutting a hole in the undertray to access the drain plug in the future.

Lots of copperslip on the threads when reinstalling it but dont put any on engine fasteners as it skews the torque readings.
It is on my to do list.

If youre under the bonnet then the air filter is a quick easy job
1444tv is the genuine citroen part which is actually this at twice the price

While on evdama, are there any other lubricants, parts to replace etc to do at around 75k miles youre aware of. Youre very knowledgeable. Dont think my regen fluid ever been done but then never had a regen issue tbh. Much apreciated

No Im just a muppet with some limited experience of owning berlngos for a while.

Power steering if youre inclined
Eolys shouldn't be needed for a while yet.
Fuel filter can be easy or a pig to do -do you feel lucky?
Coolant should be bright pink not browny red- check you have a documented cambelt change - if not then the coolant will be done during the process which you really need doing.
Brake fliud should be clear not yellowish - Check bake pads rotors for wear and calipers for free movement
The back ones can jam up
If you need work doing then change the fliud then.
It is on my to do list.
