Gasket between flexi pipe and cat
#1
Hi all,

2018 Peugeot Partner 1.6 Van HDI Blue, bought about 9 months ago.  It has a small leak on the exhaust, at the join where the catalytic converter meets the flexi pipe - you can see the soot deposits in the photo.

The flexi pipe was replaced by the vendors mechanic just before I bought it, and I think the leak was probably there the whole time I have owned it

I removed the clip thats hold the two parts together, and there is no sort of gasket between the two parts, just metal to metal.  I assume that there should be some kind of gasket there - is there a specific part for this, or should I use some sort of exhaust assembly paste?  I have some K2 high temp (350 deg C) silicone, that claims to be sensor safe, could this be used?

Any help appreciated.

Its normally a metal to metal joint but it would'nt hurt to put a smear of firegum or similar on the faces if the joint.

Firegum is/was a heat resistant paste the was used for exhaust pipe joints , it was very good , it hardened with the heat , i dont know about your silicon stuuf as when i was working there was no such thing.

Perfect, thanks for your help with this.  I can get it from Halfords on Monday, and get it sorted at last.  Thanks again.
