Thanks

The car in the video link below is a Peugeot 307 but the procedure will be the same on yours.

.

Thanks for the video, it has some good pointers. Interesting that the oilseal was a plain shaft seal and not one with a nylon cage to guide the shaft in & protect the seal. Most of the seals on ebay are the plain version, except for the more expensive seals and the one sold by ECP /CP4L. The seals look to be normal nitrile seals 40x58x10 so I may take a look at getting one from a bearing supplier.
Anyone used the 'caged' seal version or have any thoughts on that?

As you say, the cage is only there to protect the seal from the splines on the shaft as you fit it, after that the cage doesn't do anything.

The splines of the driveshaft are a smaller diameter than the part that runs in the seal, so as long as you guide the splines through the seal carefully when fitting the driveshaft you shouldn't have any problem.

Finally got the wishbone to part company with the wheel hub! I found the trick was to tap the hub inwards where the wheel bolts go while applying downward pressure on the wishbone with a pole tied to the wishbone, supported under the wishbone chassis mounting. I got the seal out and the size is 40x58x11.3 according to the numbers inside, it has a double lip but no nylon cage. My guess is that 40x58x10 R32 seals will work as the shoulder on the driveshaft is quite wide.

The replacement seal from Citroen is shown to be 40 x 58 x 10 so that size will be ok.   Wink
