Maybe a topic for discussion?
#1
I will probably be told that it is a ridiculous idea and you guys who know will probably tell me it is not possible but here goes. Could some bright spark(y) set up a facility or site where people plug their laptop into the diagnostic socket and do diagnostics online? A paid for service of course. It could get answers to quite a few of the questions that appear here. I realise that it would require cables and sockets and a good safety feature onthe laptop etc etc. but are there any inherent reasons why not?
Maybe I am being simplistic but it may be a topic for discussion. Smile

If you have the obd2 cable the sodtware is available to get the codes direct so this is a somewhat redundant idea.

Fair play for pytting it out there though, without questioning our understanding we can not improve our understanding and, knowledge.

Not such a daft idea but it would really pee the motor repairers off on what they would like us to believe is a black art..... but then again obtaining the codes is only half of the story. Interpreting them into some kind of logic for what is actually happening is the clever bit where background knowledge, hands-on experience and product knowledge play a vital role...

that is what I meant, it would include an interpretation too, maybe chat room style for those, like myself who have no knwledge of it and would provide a handy where to look guiding hand. Of course I appreciate that a good deal of the art is in the listening and looking as well, the feel part, which would be missing. It was just idle musing really, maybe the weather has something to do with it.

There are already some vids on youtube that feature Lexia3 operation but they just seem to skim the surface. Would it not be practical for forum members to post on youtube and then link back here.
I have just come off night shift so if my thinking is disorganised you will know why.
