Alternator not turning / charging ?

Just got home from work and the batery light was on ? Turned van of and on again and battery was dead ? I jumped it off and noticed the belt was turning ok but the alternator was not turning ? Where do i start ? thanks

Remove belt,try to turn alternator pulley(should turn relatively free).If not the bearings are probably siezed & alternator need replacing. If all is free,check the belt for breaking up &/or stickiness & renew.I hope the second option is your problem but knowing Sod's law.Good luck.
