knocking sound from engine MK1 1.4 petrol

Hi, I´m a norwegian owner of a 2000 Berlingo 1.4 witch has stood by my side for a couple of years. Its my second MK1 and despite the shitty locks and faded white paint, it has been a relaible car with has always started summer as winter.

I´m now going to put her up for sale. She´s only covered 62 000miles and is in good shape. Only thing beeing is that I´ve noticed a knocking noise from engine when under mildly load. I´ve tried to seach all over the web and only found this witch gives a good discription

Could this be pistonskirt/pistonslap? Would a thicker (mineral) oil do the job? Has anyone else experienced similar?

I "think" I can remember that my previous MK1 with 120 000miles also had similar knock noise from engine but not that much as I´m having now.

I just want to get to the bottom of this before putting up the ad on the net.

I would suggest you change the oil & filter (proper spec oil),if it has stood idle for 2 mild Norwegian winters.It MAY be sticking tappets so run it gently for a while & see if the noise goes. Good luck & let us know how it pans out.
