Roof Rack - What nuts and bolts needed?
#1
Evening All!

Been offered a roof rack for my Bertie (Berlingo) but not sure it has all the bolts. It has the brackets but unsure if all bolts are there...

What bolts does it need, as I don't want to turn up and then not be able to attach it to Bertie to bring home. Or worse have to strap it to the existing rubbish roof bars I have.

Any ideas or pictures. :-)

Thanks in advance!

As roof racks come in a variety of designs and by various manufacturers then it is impossible to generalise on what sizes will be required and with respect we are not mind readers on here......

If it is the sort that bolts through the roof do not touch it with a barge pole (IMO).

Roof racks should attach WITHOUT BOLTS to the six tabs on the roof i.e. they should hook into the tabs.

If any bolts are involved they will be the ones that hold the roof rack itself together.

The sort which bolt through the roof are I suppose more secure against removal but that's about all the benefit I can see, and against is irreversible damage to the vehicle and risk of leaks through every bolt hole.

Sorry I should of explained myself better.

I found a picture from google of it, I believe it's the genuine Citroen one.

I understand it uses 4 of the 6 brackets built into the roof. But how does it fix?

To be clear, is that the actual one you're buying or just one that looks like it?

Can't be sure from a pic that small but that appears to have no mounting hardware at all. Take a look at e.g

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320954731205

which seems to have the appropriate mounts... if they're not included I'd walk away, would be pretty hard to improvise successfully IMO.

FWIW couple of pictures attached (I hope) showing how AIKO mounts fit to the roof tabs...

EDIT - On second thoughts I'm not so sure about whether the one in the pics has the mounts or not now - those racks do sit low to the roof and the fixings will be right below the tubing so they could just be hidden in that pic, and they might just not have the nice shape plastic covers like the ebay one. Bit hard to say.

Thats just one that looks very simular.

It has brackets in each corner but I can't work out how they bolt up. Once I see it I'm sure I'll work it out but just thought I would ask.

I do like the AIKO roof bars but I wanted a rack rather than bars again.

Found this picture. Prob a better view.

Hi Pete.
Can you just buy the mounting adapters as in your 1st pic, without the bars? Want to mount a beacon and rear facing lights, so don't need pair of bars, or the bar itself, really.

Not sure - but might well be worth asking Aiko direct:

http://www.aiko-design.co.uk/

Note though that the ones as shown do need to work in pairs with the bar connecting them - that stops them sliding out of the tabs. The clamp bit on them (with the bolt to tighten it) clamps onto the top of the tab (taking out any play) but I don't think it would safely hold a single one in place.

How rubbish are your existing roof bars? I could do with a set.
