Noisy sounds at higher rpm-s
#1
Hello

I don't know what the problem is, so i recorded this sound (in the html attachment) which is heard near the belt. This sound was never heard before the summer but now after air conditioning is almost always on, sound become more and more noisy (and i am worried about it). Other things work normal (acceleration, engine, air conditioning ...)

Please help me what to do and what is the cause of this sound

Thanks

Have you tried taking off the drive belt to isolate the noise?
If you slacken off the belt or remove it and turn alternator , a/c pump and if you have power steering pump, the pump and any belt tensioners and see if they rotate smoothly and easily.
Start the engine without the belt on , if OK the you know the noise is not the engine, just whatever is turned by the belt.
It will narrow down where the noise is coming from. The belt itself, if worn may cause the noise. (shwissing )
Alternator/steering pump/,a/c compresser/ tensioner bearings can and do wear.

Check the crank pulley.

it was a bearing in steering pump.

Thanks for all that info guys.

Turned out that we had a more serious problem in that the head gasket has gone.

Overheated on the way home on Monday night there and had it checked by a mechanic and he said the head gasket has gone.

It is possible that the noise and the gasket failure are unrelated I suppose... A real sickener though and typically it happens right at the start of our busiest work period.

The car is 2006 1.4. Bought new and has been well maintained and driven well.

Local Citroen dealer has quoted £522 inc VAT for the lot. Assuming the head hasn't cracked that is...

Cheers again for all the help
