Newbie needing help! ASAP!
#1
:wave:Hi Guys!!

I'm new and not yet (very nearly) a berlingo owner.
I saw my berlingo a week ago, couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it. After 24 hours I'd decided I loved it and I wanted it. My berlingo was sold 30 mins after I looked at her Sad

Any way I have found another I really like but I'm worried about the age and mileage.

She's an 03 plate with 140,000 miles, diesel 2.0l and has the panoramic roof :drool:
£1990

I should be able to get her a little cheaper but I have no experience with berlingo's so please please let me know what you think as I'm going back again tomorrow.

Should I be watching for anything?? Much love!!

Forgot to say the berlingo has come from Norfolk, which my Hubby says means it's lots of motorway mileage!!

Motorway mileage although at higher speed isn't all bad.
Smoother straighter roads can mean less suspension and steering wear.
Less stop/ starts can mean less gearbox and clutch wear.
Id rather that car than one that has endured the same mileage on our local pot-holed cart-tracks!

Check the service history

:brickwall::brickwall: Sorry that's my husband telling me rubbish. :censored: Apparently he said that it being from Norfolk would explain the mileage as nothing is on your door step!

What do you think? Snap her up or keep looking? I only have approx £2000 to spend.

Thank you! Is there anything I should look for on the car? Please forgive me for coming across as completely stupid but I don't know anything about cars apart from if I like the look of them! I know full service history is preferable but if it has only had the odd couple of services should I avoid it?

Sorry I've just seen both of your replies on my other thread. :brickwall:

One one hand (six fingered..) 140k on a handful of services is risky
On the other,140k up looks to be a good engine.

If the garage is asking top money then you should be asking top notch.Full service history thank you very much.
Check for watermarks around the roof upholstery and all around.Leaky roof is an irritating problem.
Check all the doors open and close properly and close fully.
Give the engine a sustained rev and check for smoking from the exhaust
Uneven tyre wear (worn at the edges rather than flat across)should also be looked at

Dont appear too eager in front of the salesman
It does look a lovely car but try to go in with a level head .

As others have said look out for smoke and rattles, give it a good test drive and get it up to temperature to make sure it doesnt overheat, also make sure it has had a cambelt done and recent service, most garages will give it a going over to ensure they dont get no comebacks themselves. Check electrics Eg. Lights , Indicators, wipers, windows and ensure doors lock etc

Is there any warranty, i would think a months warranty at this price even if there isnt trading standards is on your side if anything major goes wrong. That said they are generally a pretty reliable motor and 140k wouldnt bother me, let us know how you get on.

Just seen your other thread and it looks a nice car for the money, try and get a cambelt and the sliding door fixed and for that money i dont think you can go wrong i am doubtful if they knock much of the price if any at all.

Well done!
Use your allocation of photo space in "Garage" section-get some piccies up so we can all admire the beastie.

You will find lots of useful nuggets of wisdom here if you can tolerate the banter.
Luckily we also have a resident MK 1/2 Rustscrat
He's a bit like Stig on TopGear only instead of racing he can dismantle three berlingos before breakfast.
Sadly for me they dont make a MK3 one yet.

Keep posting!

Thanks again!
I can't wait to get my hands on her, not picking her up until mon/tues next week.

Only question I have is the clutch was very stiff and only moved about an inch? Didn't seem to have any problem changing gear, hubby said that's normal and don't forget she is a converted van. Is he right?
