Sliding door won't latch in open position.

Can anyone advise me how to fix this as it's stopped latching? Haynes advise taking the door off to do it :O

Before you start taking the door off check that the hook at the bottom of the door is free on its pivot and is springing into place, a good dose of WD helps.

I had some trouble with mine, the catch release button inside and the handle on the outside wouldnt release the catch. Took the door panel off and found the problem is in the rather large and complicated mechanism. It seems as if a part at the back is not engaging sometimes. With some pulling about, prodding and a lil swearing and a dab of luck it works but occasionally slips out again. Problem is the mechanism appears to be pop riveted to the door. Does anyone know how to get it off without resorting to a drill? cratch:

Does anyone know if it is possible to fix this without removing the door? I realise that there wouldn't be much space, but it isn't practical for me to remove the door unfortunately.
