Annoying horn
#1
Hi guys...help me please!!
Whenever it is warm outside...and warm inside the car the horn is going when I turn the wheel....often for a long time :brickwall: - a peugeot rep has said it is quite a common fault needing an extra earth - does this ring any bells with anyone, or anyone heard of this before.
Thanks
Chris

Hi, usually it's the other way round, ie the horn doesn't work due to the earth.
Sounds like you have a chaffed or broken wire somewhere in your steering wheel module. Check under the airbag in the steering wheel,
the horn wires come through the casting on one of the ribbons, one is connected to earth the other is to the switch. Confusedalut:

Confusedcratch: Rustcrat, under the airbag that sounds a bit scary. I have a problem with the 'horn press' not making a contact at the top of the airbg cover but it does at the bottom. How delicate an operation is it to get the airbag/airbag cover off? I mean how much danger is there of the airbag doing its thing? My feeling is that I should have a training in bomb disposal to attempt it.

Rustcrat..thanks so much for the amazing reply, you have got me excited about giving it a go, but I share Mr Britse's thoughts...that is all a bit scary - does the airbag come off ok...is it from behind ? what tool takes it off?
Thanks again Smile

It's not as bad as you think. As long as you follow the instructions you should be ok.
The fiddly bit is releasing the spring clip for the air bag. Confusedalut:

Good luck with it, Xray, and welcome!

By the way, I see that Ashman hasn't been back since 2 days after his last post here in September - hope the airbag didn't blast him into outer space Rolleyes!
