berlingo engine conversions????
#1
hi folks i bought an 05 2.0hdi enterprise berlingo shortly after my purchase she slipped the timing and done a bit of damage i fitted a new engine myself that i bought advertised as remanufactured but now the new engine will not start and im slowly but surely loosing the will to live Sad

i dont know if i want to keep wasting my time trying to get it sorted with another hdi engine or should i go all out and do a conversion, what options are out there when it comes to doing the likes of a VTS conversion into what was a HDI? i can sorce a complete VTS saxo or zsara but will everything i need be in the car im thinking of the likes of the fuel tank, fuel lines and exhaust etc then there s the ecu/immobiliser to worry about, anyone on here any suggestions or anyone on here done a conversion similar, all info/replies appreciated

I'd be looking along the lines of 2.2HDi from a 406/C5 or the 2.0 16v HDi with 136bhp. Keeping with a diesel is possibly slightly easier than a petrol conversion (although I'm totally inept, so would be unable for any engine change) & I know that the 2.2 is good for a reliable 180bhp.

yeah but would my gearbox and drive shafts be ok with that engine? if i have to go down the route of changing box and shafts ecu etc i think id rather go petrol just for something different although iv just removed the crank shaft sensor and it must have been damaged from seperating my engine and box(schoolboy error not removing the sensor first) so gonna pick up a new sensor tomorrow fingers crossed it does the job

Not too sure to be honest. The 2.2 gearbox is the same as fitted to the 110 HDi engines, but the 110 box is different to that of the 90. Seeing as the 90 & 110 HDi are the same engine, I would hazard a guess that the gearbox from a 90 would fit the 2.2, but the ratios may be very short. Potentially blinding acceleration though? Not too sure about the driveshafts or if it would match up to a 2.0 16v though.

VTS engine will go more or less striaght in- its the wiring that you will have issues as to whether you have multiplex wiring or not.

For a VTS swap easiest route is to swap the entire subframe at the front. GTi-6 would also go in but you might struggle with the 6 speed box.- Prior to buying my HDi I looked into doing it..........

If you are feeling brave and are good with electrics a later 206 gti 138 (or even better a 180!) would be a fantastic swap.

Hi . Mine is a 2004 Berlingo 1.4 manual. Thinking about dumping in another engine since my mech and i couldn't figure out what's wrong with the current engine. It keeps dying at every stop. Change the speed sensor to no avail. No problems with the wiring loom either. So, that's why the decision to change the whole engine. You mentioned VTS from a citroen, which peugeot is using that engine? plentiful of peugeots to choose here but very few citroens. Getting the 206 GTI engine is not viable because of the price. Really need some suggestions. Another question, can an auto box from a peugeot fit into the MK2? Thanks in advance.Big Grin
