Front End Clunk
#1
Just recently when reversing and then braking at low speeds I have started to get a clunk in the front suspension. Driving forward and doing the same doesnt produce the noise but reverse again and its there. My car is a 58 XTR with 40,000 plus miles. Does that sound like drop links and if so, should it be covered on my warranty or is that seen as wear and tear? If not wehat else could it be? Do the pads start to shift in the callipers and clunk?

Snap ! my 61 plate does exactly the same from 3,500 on the clock. Due its first service so was going to mention it at service time . I agree though, it sounds like pads moving in calipers.

My van has always done it. It's just the pads moving slightly.

Droplinks go clunk when driving over pumps etc. as i've just changed mine. They are easy to check, just look behind the wheel and check the bar the rubber and joint for any wear or damage at both ends.

Just had first service today and mechanic confirmed clunk experienced above is caused by pads moving in calipers. Oh well just another clunk to add to the rest of the rattles!

My van is making clunking sounds, the geezer who I brought it off mentioned the shocks. But then again neither of us have a scooby about mechanics

If it's a good "clonk" then I'd usually suspect the wishbone trailing bush.
