Stop light keeps coming on - any ideas or reccommend a mechanic?
#1
Hi guys,

I have a 2004 1.9D multispace and recently when I'm driving the stop light keeps coming on, on the dash - any ideas what this could be?

I wondered if it could be electrical cos the horn works intermittently and the airbag light used to come on (but nolonger does for some reason).

I don't want to drive it around if it is serious like the brake system or something, but I also have only just passed my test so don't know any reccommended garage / mechanic that I could trust not to rip me off!

So I would be grateful of any advise on this really. I live in between Rotherham, Barnsley & Doncaster, in South Yorkshire - so if anyone knows any good mechanics near me I'd love to hear about it!

Cheers,

Kath Smile

Try topping the brake fluid right up to the top - I had this a few weeks ago (2003 1.6i petrol) and after a bit of searching on this forum found this to be a common cause of the STOP light flashing on (very briefly, and especially on corners and on slopes). Was also a bit paranoid but a garage also confirmed it was that, presumably after plugging it into a diagnostic system. The brake fluid level was originally bang in between max and min, but apparently the sensor is a bit sensitive and likes it topped up to the top.

BTW this may be worth a look and should be able to confirm the cause:

Thanks for that, I did a bit of research online and suspected it may be the brake fluid, but I shall look at getting diagnostics done to be safe - thanks for your help and the map also Smile

If you have a search on here you will find the answer to your horn and air bag light issue. Its more than likely you need to sort a decent earth out. Plenty of threads on here about it.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Cheers,

Checking/topping up brake fluid is common fix for stop light issue.
And cheaper than diagnostic check!
As Tomcat says, horn/air bag fault is usually an earth problem on the column.
