hand brake
#1
morning folks
need help/advice
rear brakes are disc and calipers have hand brake built in
nearside brake does not release after aplying hand brake
cable is free and i can release it by getting out and under(reminds me of a song) and pushing the lever with my finger.
is there a return spring that has broken inside the caliper??
thanks in advance

Magic what a bit of lubrication can do isn't it ? As an old work colleague used to say, " It's all for the want of neglect " Big Grin
So where does this bit go then ?

hi sounds like guide pins need lubrication. they let the caliper release after brake as been applied.not a big job.2 nuts and both have nuts at back of them hold them with spaner then slide caliper of use proper jell to lubricat. ps.if bent renew it is the only way.

ps.mean guide pins are bent.

thanks bigal
not the pins its the pivot point of the actuating lever just a couple squirts of oil and problem cured.
i am wondering if there should be an external spring to assist returning the lever to the off position as there are two hooks ( one on the lever and one on the cable outer anchor point) that look as if they should have a spring between them. any one know??? works ok without but!
