Engine Drain Plug, grrrr

Bloody Citroen. I get under the car to take out the drain plug. It appears to be a hex socket type thing. So I get my hex sockets and find that 8mm is too small and 10mm is too big. What numpty puts a 9mm screw in. They don't ordinarily exist. Or am I missing something?

I've just been out and bought one from Bell Tools. It's just annoying that they can't use a fairly standard size. Now I've got to wait for everything to cool down before I can get to work and seeing as I've got to go out again it'll delay things a whole day.

You Can use a 24mm socket with an extendable wheel wrench for leverage if possible.

It's just annoying that they can't use a fairly standard size.

It's deliberate. Citroen know that draining and changing oil is a simple job so they deliberately use a non-standard size so you can't do it unless you buy the correct tool.
That then gives them the opportunity to charge £35 for the oil and
£75 for the labour!!:brickwall:

Torx55 on the front brake calipers, it's a massive bolt, slightest bit of rust and you can't get it off. Not enough leverage with the torx bit.

I spent hours last week getting mine off my 2002 van, ended up grinding the bolts off!

Replaced with standard bolts.....

That's what I'm doing over time. As I need to remove something, any Torx fitting is replaced with a proper bolt. Sods Law I'll never need to remove it again, but for the sake of a few pence every time it's peace of mind for the future

Vauxhalls have been doing it for years, what's wrong with the "Stock" sizes ie. 11,13,17,19 etc etc
