EGR VALVES THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY
#41
i removed my egr and blanked off with plates off ebay, dead cheap. seemed to run better, more economical but has failed on emissions here in spain (no doubt more lenient that uk)..

failed 'opacity' test which basically is the amount the smoke blokes out light. i'm going to re-fit it and see if less smoky. any opinions?

sadly, my blingo is still smoking with egr re-fitted.

fyi - i cleaned the egr and tested it before re-fitting by connecting the vacuum pipe which opened the valve and it closed on disconnection.

i still have a concern about the egr vacuum servo valve..

it makes a buzzing sound for a minute or so after engine off... not electrical as disconnecting battery has no effect, but disconnecting vacuum tubing does.

depending on which of many forums and mechanic sites i looked on this is either a: nothing to worry about or b: a problem!

Wondered what other people thought of these strange devices that intentionally seem designed to contaminate your engine and exhaust system. Has anyone got any diagrams also for EGR operation/solenoids etc.........

I suspect that you need an "Italian Tune up", basically a run of a number of miles making the engine work really hard at high revs, you will be amazed at the difference it makes.
