Disabled Bay Abuse

I sometimes take my grand-daughter and her baby to the supermarket. Her child-seat is unclipped from the rear seat of the car and clipped to the trolley - parking bays don't allow enough room to do that, so we use parent and toddler bays, even though the bab isn't a toddler yet.
I can understand someone parking in a p&t bay or even a disabled bay when there are no other bays available, but most of the abusers park in them from laziness or some perverted sense of injustice because someone is allowed to do something they can't do.
And I think they should have special gumpy-old-codger bays, just to keep me happySmile

In a nutshell.

(Glad one of my threads seems to have pushed so many buttons - it helps me workout who is who/what on the forum in double quick time Wink )

what is it that makes parents with children so disabled they have to park by the store entrance!. My other half is sometimes almost crippled with arthritus in her upper back and a herniated disc in her lower back but does not qualify so we have to park in the backwoods, when much more abled people put blue discs in their windows and dance in to the premises & when her kids were small it was easier to walk with a double buggy rather than take the car, perhaps that is why she has the problems she does now!

I get loads of funny looks.
Only been questioned once, by another disabled driver.
Sticks out I think, cause it's a van.
And no, I'm not disabled.

Forgot to add. Confusedillyme:
I may not be disabled, but my domestic is.
The problem (other peoples; not hers) is that she looks fine most of the time and fairly bounces out of the van (in a disabled space) on a supermarket trip. But after walking round Tesco for an hour becomes very tired because of her condition. That makes walking back to the van difficult if parked miles from the store. Other days she can't even walk upstairs, so swings and roundabouts.
She has a blue badge and always displays it, although doesn't always use disabled bays if having a 'good' day.
The amusing (for me) thing is the number of people who I catch looking at the blue badge in my van after parking or when returning after shopping.
It's as if vans can't carry disabled people!

P.S.
She is not a disabled person, she is a person with a disability....
Think about it. You are a person first, who happens to have a disability.
(Had to mention that, or I get a slap!)

As someone who doesn't have kids, I think the family parking spots are just fine. They give increased space around the vehicle, allowing parents to get their kids straight out of a car into a buggy or similar. This makes it a heck of a lesser chance that the kid will wonder off into the line of traffic - i.e. in front of me.

Why does everything have to be "fair". Sometimes "sensible" is just fine.

I get annoyed when folk dump their cars in Pick Up Points outside the shops and go for their shopping or worse, sit there ignoring the fact that it inconveniences others.

lets get a petition going for Grumpy Old Codgers bays- I would be first in the queue as I find myself nodding non-stop in agreement when watching " Grumpy Old Men " on telly.

I agree with your point especially at Taxi pick up points or even Taxi Ranks.
