Oil leak
#1
I've got an oil leak from I think the rocker cover, is it an easy repair?
Just realised posted in wrong area oops sorry.
It's on a 2003 1.9 diesel van.

Hi & welcome.Changing the gasket is straightforward, just make sure all the surfaces are properly cleaned.

my son in law had the same problem with oil leaks,(2000 1.9d), the nut holding down the rocker cover was tight on the stud but the stud inside the cover was not tightened down properly. It kept slacking off again so he removed the cover and tightened it with threadlock on the threads, resealed with silicon, no gasket, and cured it. The rocker cover job meant removing manifold etc.
It didn't cure the oil leak in the sump which had rusted through, lots of pinholes,so sump off and lots of welding and patches as the metal was paper thin.

I shall be doing this job soon as I have a " thing " about oil leaks on modern vehicles, I don't mind so much on older vehicles though......
On the subject of sumps many years ago I repaired the sump on an Alvis TG 12/50 which was exactly as described above ^^^, I used lead to form the repair in the same way that lead loading on bodywork is done and it works a treat if the metal is thin as you don't blow through.... not likely something a berlingo owner is likely to experience though.
