Ah.................. the dreaded EGR. Exhaust gas recycling unit..........
First photo is the (vacuum) pipe from the solenoid (in third picture) to the EGR cam sensor (brown device cam) . This operates a flap located to the left of the green part in first photo.
The unit as a whole controls the rate and amount of air to exhaust gas consumed by the engine.
A replacement EGR is expensive £££!
If you can affix the pipe to the underside of the cam sensor it should remain operational. use superglue if you can locate the nipple on the underside of the sensor (is a thin red straw) Is fiddly.....
Have you had any performance issues? or MPG drop?

Wow, thanks for the reply
Im a new driver so i have no real experience with cars. I doubt i would have noticed a drop in performance even if their was one. She does have trouble with hills though. Can i just get a new cam or do i need a whole new EGR unit?

Hi majeeko,
You could get a new cam from the breakers yard, but may have to remove it yourself?!
This is not an engine threatening issue... if you dont feel confident repairing the unit.... it's not that serious depending on the age/milage/service history of the vehicle and whether you want to invest the money in a potentially minor issue.
I have this engine and it is sluggish, but you soon get used to plodding around and reaping the fuel economy benefits
Hope this helps
