Hi guys
I have just started having problems with the steering on my beloved Berlingo......I did about 300 miles on the motorway came to turn off at the junction and had no power steering....managed to get around the roundabout ( just ) and then next thing it was ok.
Now it seems to be intermittent and jerky and also makes a little knocking sound....just went through MOT with now advisories so can't be cv joints or broken springs as mentioned on here before but I've no idea....can anyone help me ?
Cheers
Andy

As per Coco but is the fluid clean?If it's brown rather than red,suck out all you can & top up with fresh fluid.Repeat this weekly or 100 miles about 4 times.Check the first oil removed & it will probably look mettalicky.This should clear by the 4th change.If the steering improves,add a good additive for PAS & repeat every 2 years or 20,000 m.It's always cheaper to change oils/fluids regularly than replace components.(it's also safer)

I've just done that, not looking forward to next week as I've sucked out the fluid for this week,it don't half give you the shits mate...... (Spit don't swallow)...:whistle::whistle::whistle:
Only joking...
Actually, perhaps in hindsight, perhaps it should be stated that the fluid needs to be sucked or drawn off with a syringe or similar and not by contact with the mouth as it may be a wee bit poisonous...

The plastic cover that protects the aux. drive belt was missing off mine. When I hit a pothole when turning water splashed up onto the belt and I lost power steering, reversing out of my fence and revving it up turned the air blue.
:twisted::twisted:
After fitting new cover its never done it again

Turns out the garage couldn't find anything apart from rust on the U/J on the bottom of the steering column.....cleaned it all off, a little WD40 and spray grease and its sorted !!!

Have you got damp mats or signs of water inside,this damp atmosphere can cause your problem.
I would still change the P.A.S. fluid.
