Rattle/Knock when switching off
#1
I am a new berlingo owner (2008, Mk3 multispace 1.6HDi). Today I have noticed that when I switch the ignition off the engine make a knocking/rattling for a second as the engine stops. Anyone else had this problem

Is it petrol?which I suspect it is.If so let it idle for a second or two before switching off.NEVER blip the throttle before switchingoff.I cringe when I see that done.Try giving it a bit of hard work,it may be coking up & detonating.
If it's a diesel I can only suggest dripping injectors.Try a good fuel cleaner & a workout.

Been quiet al day, and then started again. Mainly noticeable when engine is turned off. Lasts a second or two, and about 4-5 knocks as the engine winds down. As it happens, when the bonnet was opened it decides to behave again! Could it be a DMF issue?

After a bit more investigation, it only seems to occur when the engine is hot. No noise is heard when the bonnet is up outside of the car, but is heard by the person in the drivers seat. Seems to be on the drivers side, but cant pinpoint it. Any suggestions.
