Electric windows - how to lower without BSI?

Hi,

I need to refit a recently repaired BSI unit to my Berlingo (see the forum post about my Wet BSI saga which has just repeated itself).

Can someone advise as to how I can mechanically wind the driver's window down (the battery and BSI are currently disconnected)?

Due to paranoia and caution around the BSI reconnect-and-reboot, I want to follow this procedure to the letter.

I don't know about a physical winding down of the window but can you not run a direct feed / earth from the battery to the output side of the window switch only ? Any old cable would do this as load is small.

The only way I can think of, and I replaced a broken mechanism recently, would be to take the door card off and take the glass out of the clamps that attach it to the winder. If you do do it very carefully, the glass is heavy and will drop to the bottom of the door. If Rustscrat approves I would go the direct feed route, however you have to be careful again that you are winding it the right way, also the drivers side goes through a control unit (which sits under the fuse box by the steering wheel) after the rocker switch and it might be better to bypass this too.

What about getting someone to sit in the drivers seat while you connect the battery then they can turn the side lights on to reboot.
The only reason to have the window down is so you can lean in and get to the switches.

The other way of course is to have the door open and fool the system by holding in the door switch.

BSI was returned from BBA Reman today. Reconnected and booted as per the battery-reconnection protocol referenced in first post. My wife was happy to do the job of headlight and ignition switcher-onner, while I reconnected the battery and stood outside.

Result. Berlingo is back on the road again!

This time I put some packs of silica gel amongst the rats nest of wiring above the BSI. Also added sealant to interior of windscreen and thoroughly cleaned out leaves from below plastic drain/vent panels (under wipers). Let's hope the BSI stays dry next time we have a downpour.
