Outside temp sensor

Hi, could someone either point me in the direction of a previous thread or come up with the solution to this little problem?

I recently fitted the type B MFD in order to get the outside temperature displayed (winter's a-coming). The MFD works fine but, of course, a sensor needs to be connected before it will display a value. I understand that in vehicles where it is fitted as standard it is located in the L/H wing mirror, but if I assume that it is not fitted in mine, would the wiring harness be the same? And what wires do I look for to connect a sensor?

Hi, unfortunately it's not that simple.
The display has to be enabled to display the temp and also the Bsi has to be enabled. Both can be done with Lexia software and a reader.
Also you might have to run some wires from the sensor to the door connector as these might be missing. Think this has been covered in the forum before somewhere. I installed mine in the drivers mirror. alut:

Thanks for the interest. So, if I can find someone to enable the device that just leaves the problem of where to connect the sensor (fitting it won't be an issue). If the cables are in place, can you tell me how to ID them? If they're not, where do I connect the newly installed cables?

Have a look at the drawing.
You will need to check that the two cables are installed in the multi plug door connection IC70 / 23V NR pins 21 & 22 .(this unscrews) Check both doors. If there seems to be metal connections at these positions then the wires are installed. Now check the door socket, same pins. These were the ones that were missing on mine and I had to install some.

Thanks again. Looks like I have the same set up you had, no pins in the door side of the multi plug (off side, n/s had nothing either side).
Did you need to get specific fittings to make the connections?

The door side connector was a sealed type but there was 2 unused wires going to a small connector inside the door. I used these for the sensor and moved the pins in the other door connector to suit.

I won't be able to try that myself until the atmospheric conditions improve somewhat.

To remove the contacts get a jeweller's screwdriver or a paper clip and straighten out as in photo and lever the indicated retaining clip up from the contact while applying slight pull on the wire from the other side.
To replace, just push it in (same orientation as the others) and you should feel it click. alut:

My thanks to Rustscrat for his guidance in getting this done. Managed to sort out the installation readily, but it took some time to locate a willing body with the capability to enable the BSI. However, les jetons pour le vin rouge are a persuasive tool, so I parted with a few and we are both happy.

I had that done earlier today and it's now -4, apparently.

Glad you managed it. I would be very interested to learn where you obtained your type B MFD. My M59 (2005 2.0HDi) has the 2 line display. I understand the type B has a 3 line display. I am hoping mine has the wiring already. I have Lexia to do the programming but cannot find the correct display anywhere. 2005 cars are not common in breakers yards yet!
