2.0 HDI (05) Radio/CD Intermittent fault

Hi Folks,
Some time back I had some mysterious elec problems with my van - sorted by the folks on here after BSI reset. All was well for some time until the Radio/CD has taken on a mind of its own - switching on and off at will - but always after I have tried to switch it on. It will work correctly for a few days, then lose all memory and bass/treble settings accompanied by warning beeps. I noticed also that sometimes the radio illumination will go off and on even when I'm not using it. I have removed the unit and used dielectric grease on the terminal blocks after cleaning to no avail. Does anyone repair these radios, or if I replace it with another make can I still have all the stalk facilities and display info?

These radios require a permanent supply even when switched off.
What you're experiencing sounds like a intermittent connection on either the red or
yellow wires (whichever is the permanent voltage supply). Follow each both back to it's fuse
and check for loose/corroded connections. HTH

Many thanks for the reply and the info - I'll check it out as soon as poss. It sleeps out in the salty atmosphere here in Orkney so corrosion on terminals is certainly a route to go down. I'll come back with any findings.

Still no joy with this very intermittent radio problem. I've done a 1500 mile round trip over Christmas/New Year after checking wiring/connector corrosion and it was fine for some of the trip, then on/off as before. Later on the way North it was fine and then at home it played up again. Now OK again. Anyway I now have a Vscan simple scan tool OBD2/EOBD compatible which works fine on my '99 XJ8 Jag but refuses to communicate with the definitely compliant late 2005 2.0 HDI Blingo. Anyone got any ideas? I thought I would scan it to see if the radio/display fault threw up a code.

That intermittent behaviour has to be an intermittent connection.

OBD tools will not help with the audio system.

Like O.J. I would look for a poor connection, either supply or earth
