Short journeys = low mpg.

Does this 5 miles all consist of city driving? No free-flowing dual carriageway or motorway?

It will depend a lot on what type of driving you do, and how you drive it.
Stop-Start city driving does nothing for fuel economy, wheras a steady cruise along a dual-carriageway or motorway is far more efficient.

If you have a heavy right foot then again fuel economy will suffer, steady accelleration & braking combined with good anticipation can help your fuel economy.

Short journeys don't help either, I know with my Berlingo that after 5 miles the engine will probably just about be reaching it's optimum operating temperature. Most vehicles have cold start enrichment cycles and will actually overfuel until the engine reaches a satisfactory temperature.

27.7mpg does seem a bit crap though, how are you working out your mpg?

ONLY doing that sort of mileage will take its toll on the engine.
And if you have a DPF, it ain't going to last long.

Hi, I only do short distance & low mileage but I'm averaging 35 to 40mpg.
I made the mistake of using US gallon instead of UK.Confusedillyme:

So it's 1 Gall = 4.546L
