Quote:In the Highlands there are a signifcant number of us on Oil for Heating (no Gas Mains and have used much of the peat!) - and the price of Heating Oil has risen from 52ppl to 60ppl in only 6 weeks - this is of far bigger concern to us (13% rise anyone) - I can survive without using the car - but it is bloody cold without the heating!
60 ppl? Lucky for some! 65ppl last time I bought. I've been turning off radiators and putting on more layers of clothing.
There's still plenty of peat up my way, but very few of us cut it now. Everyone used to have a peat-fuelled stove, and they changed them over to oil 20 or 30 years ago when oil was cheap and a lot less labour intensive than peat. Now that oil is too expensive, they can't go back to peat (unless they fork out for a solid fuel stove), even though peat is free. (Yes, you read that right. Free.)
By the way, did I mention that one of the reasons that I drive a Berlingo is that it's great for get one's peats home?
