My Multispace ready for work

I'm a sparky by trade, and don't feel like paying for two vehicles...so I went for a multispace last year.

Worked well so far, but needed a better system than simply throwing stuff in the back.

After a weekend's work (And a LOT of help from my Dad) here is the finished result

The 'parcel shelf' is in sections, as is the centre support, so it's pretty configurable. Some angle ally on the bottom of the centre section provides lateral support.

Some metal stud and blocks of wood were used to make the 'bulkhead', and an old motorcycle cargo net is strung across it.

Very pleased!

Looks like the back of my lingo van, but with less tools and more seats. Not sure that the stuff on the back shelf doesn't shout, I am carrying tools please rob me (been there lost the lot).

A session with a window tinting pro would sort that though.

If they want it, they'll get it somehow. Know a guy had the side of his van cut open...

(I do throw a sheet across the stuff, to at least cover it up)

Where the bars (bulkhead) from? Got any closer pictures?

They are hand-crafted from finest scrap lumber, metal stud, and 10mm bolts

We drill out the wood and put the stud through, then turned the nuts to tension the whole thing to the headlining.

The wood has been shaped to a curve with a plane, so I'm hoping the headlining will survive!

How have you fitted it to the roof/headlining? As there's nothing there really to fix it to. Is there?

The nuts at the tops of the threaded upright rods push the timber up into the roof and hold it there against the roofs own reinforing crossmember.


I Know youre all done now chronyx, and you've done a great job on this ,but I would have put some black plastic conduit on the rods just to add a psuedo-professional finish

I thought that was the case but would it not damage the headlining plus push the metal work outwards if over done?
