Poor fuel efficiency? (1.6 Petrol)
#1
Hi,

We've been running our Berlingo for about 5 months now with no major issues, coilpack died, needed a new rear muffler, nowt major.

But the missus has started complaining that she's using more fuel lately, and the car's lacking some power, I've noticed it shuddering at low revs and stalling occasionally too.

My first inclination is check plugs, replace filters and maybe a fresh coilpack (the last one was a scrappy job)

Any other suggestions?
Cheers.

Could be engine temp transmitter reading too low, figures from this are important, as it will run too rich if the ecu thinks the engine is cool

Don't suppose you happen to know the resistance on the sender? would rather not replace unless I know its bummed.

Temp senders are only 12 quid.

What actual mpg is it doing?

If it's running too hot as well (by smell/boilover, not gauge), I'd be suspecting the cat as a source of blockage.

She reckons 30mpg, but says it's definitely worse than it was.

May be worth seeing if anyone local to you has a Lexia and will work for beers or a smidge of cash.

Look at coil dwell times, injector pulse time, manifold pressure, engine (coolant) operating temperature, lambda output voltage trend, intake air temp and sensor voltages generally.

Always worth checking the very basic stuff like wheel alignment - I've demonstrated to myself (former cynic) just how much this can impact on economy.
