Type B multi function display
#21
Yes it's entirely possible. The original bezel is 18mm high aperture. The new display requires 30mm so that's 6mm off each horizontal edge. I have marked it up for a bit of butchery but have not decided yet which tool to use. It's too thick for a knife, a reciprocating saw is too crude, but I am thinking of using a high speed grinder or cutting disc, like is used for modelling. Anybody with a better idea?

Have just tried my C5 green display and it works fine.
As for fitting (not done yet) looks like it will be a a good fit with maybe just a slight widening of the Berlingo housing window.

How are the colours of the C5 display? As far as I understand it is black numbers, not the amber ones.

Green background with black characters. Personally I think this looks better than the orange.

I found that the easiest way to remove plastic from the original Berlingo 2 line display bezel was to grind it away using a modeller's drill and a very coarse miniature sanding drum, as picture below

Here is the finished article. I might get around to fitting a temperature sensor eventually. When you get my age you can tell when it's cold!

Here is a summary of what I eventually managed.

The display unit came from a 2002 Peugeot 307, part number 9646652577 followed by what looks like OR00. There is also a marking EMF B SAGEM-00. I believe this means ECRAN MULTI FUNCTION B. (ECRAN is French for SCREEN). There is another number 21669450-8 A. The connector was 18 pin on the top right of the display, fed by 5 wires, a twisted pair of blue and orange, a yellow, a green with yellow stripe, and a beige.

I suspect there are many displays which can be used. Rustcrat has already established that a C5 display works. I also believe the 206 display will work. I think it would be sensible to look for the text EMF B on any you may think of buying. There are plenty of displays on eBay with widely varying prices. A question to the seller might be to ask if it says EMF B anywhere, and has 18 pins, and a connector like the one you already have. I paid £18 for mine, including post.

To recap, my Berlingo is a 2005 2.0 HDi Multispace Desire with the Modutop.

I still have to find a reliable way of switching between the various screens. The wiper stalk has the contacts, in the washers twist switch, connected internally via a small ribbon cable. It seems very difficult to get at the steering wheel end of the stalk, and hence the ribbon cable, so I am very loath to remove the washer switch. I will probably now experiment with a home made solution until someone comes up with a better one. Thanks to everyone for their interest and encouragement

Ok I'll see what I can do. Looks like the decorating will have to take rest at the weekend, the Bingo's broken  or that's what I'm telling our Gert!

I have made further progress today (10 Jan) in solving the problem of the push switch on the end of the wiper stalk, or, should I say, the lack of one.
I have obtained a stalk from a Picasso with the fuel computer. This has the washer twist switch and the push button. I gently prised off the push button (it was easy) and I found that it was very similar to the original end cap of the Berlingo. The photo shows the Berlingo on the left and the Picasso on the right. Both end caps are retained by identical protruding hooks on the periphery. The Picasso however has a plastic pin about 25 mm long which is attached (welded) to the inner side of the end cap. It projects about 15 mm from the end cap. The Berlingo cap has no "pin" but does have a couple of "extensions" to stop any further movement into the washer switch. You can see these clearly in the photo. I think these will need to be removed to allow the end cap to be pushed inwards. I also need a spring. The spring fitted to the Picasso is 15mm dia and 12mm long, and fits immediately inside the periphery but outside the "pin". I hope the photo makes all this clear. If you don't fancy making up your push button, I guess one from a Picasso with a washer twist switch will do the job. Unfortunately I have to give this one back!
