this is where it can get complicated, does it carry weight as suggested? is it a commercial van? what is it insured as? what came on it? car tyres are softer compound, wear quicker and can be cheaper, good van / commercial tyres are harder, wear longer [ but how long is a piece of string, and what quality do you buy].
Van tyres can be 4,6 8 ply also. Many factors come into this, my winter mud and snow tyres are vanco tyres, but my summer / alloy tyres are car tyres as fitted when I bought it.

I run my Van on car tyres, I generally carry around at least 350 kilos including myself and a passenger, tyres last me at least 25k, just make sure the tyre has the correct weigh rating.
Also, I don't bounce mine up kerbs like most van drivers, which possibly helps with the longevity of the tyres.

I've been running Barum Vanis reinforced van tyres,
renewed them as a set in June 2009 and have done 30k
Still almost 4 mm left on them,
Do generally have 500kg ish in the back though.

like I said van tyres though normally harsher ride will wear better, as above posts prove. Be interesting to see others comments.
