Gearbox Removing
#1
Hey all.

Not sure what Gearbox I have (BE3/5 or BE4/5?) but my van is a 2000 1.9D.

I'm trying to remove the gearbox.. I've disconnected all wires/links and the N/S drive shaft. Does the O/S driveshaft HAVE to come off or can I slide the gearbox away from it in the hopes it will slide out easily like the N/S did?

Am looking for the easiest route as I'm doing this in 4 inches of snow. If the O/S shaft does have to be removed from gearbox shall I undo the 3 bolts directly attaching it to the box?

Any help before I drop the gearbox mount off will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

P.S. I've found 3 main bolts on top from box to engine but can't find a 4th?

You definitely have to pull the drive shaft out. Have a read of this. Confusedalut:

I've read that many times but I need to remove the gearbox.. Instead of pulling the drive shaft out can the gearbox be pulled away from it?

Good question, you might be able to as you have to pull it back from the input shaft. It's not an easy job any way but let us know if you succeed.

Thanks mate. Do you know if the O/S drive shaft goes into the speedo before the gearbox? And does it simply slide out of that speedo housing (one with 3 bolts)?

Just trying to figure out if the gearbox will actually come away from the drive shaft easily.

As far as I know you don't have to remove the 3 bolts like it says. I thought you undid the two shaft support bearing clamps and then pulled it out. I suppose it gives you a bit more space.
I've had a MK1 + Mk2 box off and didn't remove this but I did remove both drive shafts.
