Remapping

I have recently bought a 2006 Berlingo Van 1.9D (non turbo) and am very disappointed in the performance ie no acceleration and power, struggling to reach 70mph and any slight incline you are down to third gear, is there anything that can be done to improve the perfomance I keep hearing about remapping but this seams to be only available for turbo models.

There is absolutely no way to make any worthwhile improvement to the performance
on the 1.9D engine. What it is!!
On the bright side: It will last forever and give very few problems. We get asked this
a lot!
