2.0 l hdi judder at 1500rpm
#1
Hi folks

Just picked up my first Citroen its a multispace 2003 2l hdi
It drives normally and speeds along great apart from town driving at 1500rpm the car judders along in fourth gear so I have to change down to third and revs go up it goes away I've seen posts on other forums about this but no answer I know nothing about these engines as I've been driving vws

Thanks in advance

Have a search on forum, I put it down to the gear ratios Being longer requiring you not change gear as soon

Same here, in the 2,0d which I had before the clock needles were in exactly the same positions in 5th, in the 2.0hdi the rev counter is lower for any given speed. So yes it is probably the ratios. A little annoying when I am trying to keep legel! The 2.0d would chug along fine at 30 in 4th, the 2.0 hdi wont and has that judder.

I would say you Air flow meter has had it.
I Had the same issue until last night, changed out my air flow and back to normal.

1500rpm in 4th is a bit low. I never try 4th till I get up to 40mph.
So where does this bit go then ?

My trundles along in 4th at 1200 rpm quite nicely, and in 5th also.

I agree.
The 1.6 75 is pushing out max torque at 1500 so the ratios are no problem low roadspeed.
Mine will pull cleanly from 1000 in top and will trundle happily in 5th at 1200 with a loaded trailer.
Takes a lot of getting used to though-the Hdi was a real culture shock after my formative years spent with petrol engines and screaming Jap bikes with peak power at 7000+ and redlines marked at 10K....

I'd probably say the motor mounts are getting worn-like Nicosean cashpoint machines......
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

I've had my 2.0HDi from new (May 03), and I find it has always juddered at 1500 rpm, which equates to around 30mph in 4th, so just drop down to 3rd.
It could be down to the CO sensors as well.
A mate of mine and I both had Triumph Tiger 955's. His juddered and surged at low revs, mine didn't. There was nothing wrong with either of them though.
