Torque settings for wheel nuts (bolts?)
#1
Hi,

I've got the 16" steel rims on my XTR. Does anyone know the torque settings for the wheel fixings ?

( To my shame, I've not looked to see if bolts or nuts are used :oopsSmile

I have an intermittent low speed whistling noise from my off side front, I expect it's the brake caliper, noise ceases if I dab the brake pedal or twitch the steering a bit.

OK, so that's 110 Nm or 81 ft lbs. (11 + or - 1 daN.m)

Thanks,

Richard

Took the wheel off today.

Car has only done 20K miles. Plenty of meat left on the brake pads, but disks noticeably worn, lip around each edge. I guess disks will need to be replaced at the same time as the pads when those wear out.

(I'm not a heavy user of my brakes, unlike some folks whose brakelights light up at the merest hint of a bend)

Anyway, I've cleaned the rust of the edges of the disk, and given it all a good blast with brake cleaner. Brakes aren't binding at all, so can't be much of a problem.

BTW, on the XTR I found it tricky to find somewhere solid for my trolley jack. Sump guard covers the wishbone pivot points, ended up jacking under the rear rollbar mounting points. After I'd dented the sill, trying to jack up next to the official jacking points.
