Lad,
need to replace the front two bearing on the the van. winding noise coming from frontend. does anyone have some work instructions or list of parts required for replace parts. also how mush should i expect to pay for these bearing

Just done one of mine, 5 foot tube on two foot breaker bar with 35mm deep socket to remove hub nuts, you need a good press to push the bearing in without damaging it, bearing £20 from motor factors and £20 to guy who pressed it in.
previously managed to get other side in myself using hub in oven, bearing in freezer and my big carpenters bench vice, but it didn't like it and it is whineing already less than 5000 miles.
my advice take the hub off yourself,being careful not to pull driveshaft out(big oil mark on drive) and get the bearing fitted by someone with good press, then refit, job done!

Absolutely, or buy a spare hub, rebuild and swap the whole thing over. Watching a 5T press flex as the bearing resists movement, is high on the "pucker factor" when you're standing beside it.

I do all my own repairs and after bu88ering up my vice pressing a wheel bearing in I invested in a 20 tonne press! My advice would be to find a local garage to press it in for you, or treat yourself to a press.

Do people not use heat for bearing assembly these days ??? For the uninitiated the default bearing heating temperature is 120 degrees Centigrade when assembling onto a shaft so it will be safe to heat the hub assembly to the same value, use the oven and allow time for heat soak.
Naturally you will need to work swiftly so get all the tools and equipment ready to hand before you start.
If you cannot get to use the oven you need to do more housework to earn the brownie points.
Press / push on the outer bearing race only or you will regret it but then at least when you do it next time you'll be ok.

Put the bearing in a plastic bag in the freezer overnight and heat the hub with a hot air gun just before you press it in and it will go easier. Watch out for ABS version it has to go the right way round. Undo the driveshaft nut before you take the wheel off the ground, jack up and remove the caliper and disc, split the bottom ball joint and the strut fixing and pull the hub off. The procedure is pretty standard for any front wheel drive vehicle.
So where does this bit go then ?
