Battery on EGS stop/start
#1
I have a B9 1.6HDI with the EGS gearbox and stop start . Does anyone know how to get to the battery terminals? The battery has a plastic cover. Is it possible to charge the battery in situ? Thanks in anticipation. I believe this is a special battery.

Good question and I'll be curious to see how one removes the battery in a B9. Had a look at mine yesterday and it looks like one must remove some electrical bits from the top of the battery case too.

I wouldn't bother taking the battery off to charge it, the alternator charges it whilst it's on the car so what's the difference? Use a good quality 3 stage charger.

That's my opinion, some will probably disagree.

Good advice, Fletch, seems the best option-I would be too scared to even give somebody a jump-start using my car nowadays due to all the electronics etc.

Agreed you do not need to remove the battery, however you should disconnect the battery, some charges may damage electronics (not according to me). Never seen it happen however, a bit like using a mobile phone on a plane. would you get on a plane that could crash because someone uses a mobile phone?

Hi Jim7
Have had my battery replaced by Citroen on same Berlingo and spoke with their "techie" guy just last Friday querying why vehicle had to be left for supposedly 4 hours after new battery fitted, he told me that these batteries come with a microchip on board which needs at least 2 hours to "talk" to on board computer, he then produced paper to that effect, still don't know what to believe, have just been told today that the job I do "taxi driver in Glasgow) is not really compatible with the exhaust particle filter and need to take the car for non stop 20min run at minimum speed of 40mph each week to keep it clear, my probs still continue as another 2 days in garage for them to supposedly download all the data from computer and send it off to Tech guys in France to see what they want to do next.

Should you not get at least 3 years out a modern battery?
