I have a B9 1.6HDI with the EGS gearbox and stop start . Does anyone know how to get to the battery terminals? The battery has a plastic cover. Is it possible to charge the battery in situ? Thanks in anticipation. I believe this is a special battery.

Good question and I'll be curious to see how one removes the battery in a B9. Had a look at mine yesterday and it looks like one must remove some electrical bits from the top of the battery case too.

I wouldn't bother taking the battery off to charge it, the alternator charges it whilst it's on the car so what's the difference? Use a good quality 3 stage charger.
That's my opinion, some will probably disagree.

Good advice, Fletch, seems the best option-I would be too scared to even give somebody a jump-start using my car nowadays due to all the electronics etc.

Should you not get at least 3 years out a modern battery?
