They have ZERO influence over the Government-controlled additive to the retail price.

If the price is pretty reasonable before tax why does Diesel cost more in this country?? Why does it take weeks for fuel to come down in price when the price of wholesale fuel goes down?? Why is there a 8p litre of a difference in petrol stations??

Lots of factors affect the unit price of fuel at a petrol station, primarily to cost of the land the station is based on.

Whilst I'm not defending the price of petrol, I really think you all need to be looking at the bigger picture. The fluctuation in crude oil affects the pre-Government price of fuel very little, a few pennies, but the price is exaggerated due to the enormous VAT/Duty addition. You really need to be concentrating your efforts at the reason for some 68% of the cost of a litre of fuel, and it isn't the fuel companies!

You say its not the fuel companies, why is BP one of the most expensive petrol stations?

The bottom line is that I, and many others, are finding it really hard to make a living just now and Fuel bills are rising ( Gas, Electricity , Petrol and Diesel etc ) and all we hear are the same lame excuses from ALL political parties, fuel supplier etc etc etc....it seems that the profits are not as good as we imagine , yet huge bonuses are frequently awarded. cratch:

I listen to John Humphries and Evan Davis grilling politicians and Industry chiefs most mornings -big bonuses are always defended with the claim that it attracts good management talent rather than appoint those who have risen through the ranks.
Thats a good policy???
The outfit I work for tried this a few years ago with 'outsiders' and graduates.
They all fell flat on their faces very quickly and its now back to the footsoldiers who 'done good' making a better job of it.
I occasionally purchase Private Ey -not too often though as it angers as much as amuses.
