Modutop Door Hinges - Cable tie repair

I considered using velcro on both doors, but decided against it when I tried it.

Instead, I got some plain coloured cable ties and put them around the frame and around the remainder of the door's hinge. There is a slight gap above the frame, big enough to get the cable ties into easily.

After a little tighten and a minute wiggling each door, I got to the point where the door actually closes properly and snaps into the catch as normal. They've been like this for months now and work fine. The ivory colour of the cable ties matches really well and looks fairly discrete.

I hope this might help someone else.

I'm guessing that this must be a fairly common fault, as I had 2 modutop doors handed to me with the car!

I used the idea above, but found that the passenger side compartment door kept popping open when driving over speed bumps. So, I took the idea a stage further and drilled holes through the remainder of the hinges on the doors and cable tied through them - works perfectly now. The beauty of using cable ties is in their ratchet mechanisms, which allow for minute adjustments when tightening, allowing for a perfect custom fit on each hinge. It's painfully obvious that the parts of a Modutop are not exactly precision made for each other!

I will post some pics for reference tomorrow when it's daylight, as its sometimes nice to see what a finished job looks like before taking a drill to parts of your car (for anyone considering doing this)

Thanks, if I can stomach the heartache of trying to use the tinypic widget again, I will do. Their servers may have been struggling over the weekend, but I've found it to be a nightmare uploading
