Available turbo diesel engine swaps for 1.9 berlingo
#1
Hey guys and gals
I currently have a 51 plate berlingo as my work van .
To be honest its been nothing but a pest to keep running.
And now i think the head gasket is on its way out again.
Now due to the fact its terrible on fuel and flat as a pancake
Im thinking about dropping a turbo diesel into it.
Thinking along the lines of a 306 or zantia lump?
Has anyone any info on what fits best and any problems in doing this
Conversion?
Thanks In advance
Ian

The concensus here, unless you have unlimited time and excellent technical abilities,
would be to look around for a 2.0l HDi and buy one! There are plenty on AutoTrader.
If you were to get a Multispace you may also benefit from cheaper insurance.
If you attempt this conversion you're also going to have to swap most if not all the
electrics as well, unless you know a very experienced auto-electrician who's good with Pug/Cit electronics.
There is also the documentation nightmare. Changing the log book details and telling your insurance
company that your van has been modified.
Personally if I was self-employed I'd need the vehicle to be on the road all the time.
If you have a half-decent accountant he can advise you on how much tax relief you can get on
a work vehicle.
The Older I get the Better I Was!  Cool

1.9 XUD turbo diesel from a 306 or Xantia is pretty much a bolt-in swap for the 1.9 DW8. You need to use the DW8 flywheel to fire the rev counter and speedo, and the DW8 temp sensor housing needs to be used as the connectors are different for the XUD.

having had a picasso 2.0hdi for 6 months.....injectors are 300 quid each.... and the engine management light still comes on randomly with a low fuel pressure code. and had a 306 1.9 d for 3 years with nothing spent on the engine i bought a dw8 multispace.

not just pug/citroen but most makes got electronics on the engines arround the turn of the century and reliable oil burners evolved into money pits

same with discovery , bullet proof 300tdi turned into td5 with tempremental electronics
transit, the reliable smiley mks evolved into the fault prone mk6
