Tyre wrench

Replaced a tyre yesterday and the tyre wrench has gone out of shape a little so doesn't grip the bolt and I end up flying. Anyone got any ideas for a good replacement or if possible another berlingo one? Couldn't find a berlingo tyre wrench on eBay

I did see telescopic ones but was wary they may not be so solid. How good/strong are they?

Had mine about 6 years or so, still going strong, on stubborn nuts ( after tyre monkeys have used the air hammer on them ) I've stood on it

Is there a specified torque for wheel bolts or is it the old "snug it up and then hit the wrench with your palm*. Myself, I've always used the latter method and never had a problem.

When I worked as a plant fitter for the NCB (Coal Board), the torque setting we used was "Tighten until the thread strips, then back off half-a-turn"

Back to business, I use an 18" power-bar similar to this with 17mm 1/2" drive socket http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-2-BREAKER-BAR-PO...3365d6d789

If you are buying one, make sure you get a good quality one and it will last you, bought mine when I was an apprentice back in 1973 used in industrial environment and still going strong. Make is Elora, don't think you can still get that make anymore but any good make such as Snap-On (expensive), Britool etc.

Hi,
The ebay wrench quoted by Steve Valentine looks very similar to the wrench/s that we have used for the past 20 years or so without problem.
However, we are on our second wrench as the first one was lent out but as seems to be normal wasn't able to find its way back to us.
As the wrench has the normal half inch square it becomes very useful for dealing with stubborn nuts etc - extra leverage over the standard socket set wrench. Be wary about using it to tighten nuts though!

34 years old! I didn't think people kept things for that long, regardless if they worked or not!
