Usually get 600 miles to a tank, which is 50mpg I think. Do you get much smoke out of the exhaust when you floor the accelerator? Mine used to, as I never had the engine above about 2500 rpm. You just didn't need to. But it struggled to pass the smoke test on an MOT a few years back. The tester said to rev it up from time to time. Last MOT it went through no problem.

When was it last serviced?
I had no service history for my 2.0 hdi with 79k miles on the clock on purchase, economy was terrible initially, until I changed the oil, oil filter & air filter, now it is 45-50mpg. The oil was very dirty and the air filter looked to be an original Bosch item totally black. Engine was struggling with thick oil and no air.

My '02 2.0 HDI does about 40 on average but i do tend to be a bit heavy on the right foot. Oil and filter, air filter and fuel filter changed every 12 months.

I have currently got 2004 2.0 hdi multispace with a tuning box fitted and get about 42mpg at the moment, according to the manual they are supposed to do 39mpg around town.

lately mine seems to be using a bit more than usual probably because it requires servicing, maybe yours need same. People claim to get 50mpg but i only get that on a run not around town.

I get high 40's mpg in mixed driving, driving "carefully" got me a couple more mpg but I guess I drive "normally" now and still seem to get good mpg.

Not a very scientific answer..... Need to ascertain the quantity of fuel that has been put in the tank and then to divide by the distance travelled to determine the specific fuel consumption in Miles Per Gallon or Kilogrammes Per Centimetre....
