shutting electrics down when changing battery

Hi all, when changing the battery is there a correct procedure to follow, to shutdown electrics , just don't want to cause other problems, thanks.

Sort of; put the driver's window down then remove key and lock the car up after releasing the bonnet latch. Leave it a few minutes (say fifteen), then remove old battery and promptly connect new. If there's only a few seconds between old and new batteries you may well not lose the radio code (if fitted).

Once it's tightened down, reach in the window and put the key in the ignition, turn on. You should be good.

I connected a jump battery to the terminals before I removed them and left it on till they were refitted. No problem with BSI resets or anything and no waiting.
So where does this bit go then ?
