Electrical help ?
#1
Hi I have a problem with my berlingo x reg no air con diesel 1.9

I appear to have lost Brake Lights, Heater, Wipers and Glow plug light on dash.
However when I rev the van ounce started I get my heater back and my wipers back but only setting 3 I still have no brake lights.

I have checked Fuse, changed alternator checked the groundings in the foot- wells and now i am stumped has anyone had this before? If i could just get my brake lights back this would be a start.

I had my alternator checked and was not running its best so thats been changed but whilst he was checking my alternator with the volt meter he asked me to rev van put on hazzards rev again and then brake and the lights did work then just wondered if that helps. Any ideas would be great Thank you in advance

For the brake lights, I would suspect the switch(on the pedal mount).Unplug the socket & bridge the terminals with ign on.If they work check sw adj & operation. They sometimes fill with crud & stick.Check the heater sw for loose connections, but I suspect the speed potentiometer.Good luck.

What's the RPO number on your sticker in the driver's door jamb, between the hinges? It's a five digit number that will begin with 08***.

The RPO is 08709 - that means it's a multiplexed van, date stamped on 12th September 2000 - shame; not so easy to fix as pre-08600 models...

EWPA is your paint code: "Blanc Banquise" or in English possibly best translated as "glacier white".

As Ron says, the brake pedal switches for the stoplights do get a bit iffy. They rely on a small contact area and over time it gets unwanted insulation on the internal contacts, formed by dry grease, dust and oxidised metal. Provided you have 12V going into one side of the switch (check with a test light or meter) then the switch is faulty. Not that it's the easiest thing to swap out... Cheap though.

The wipers are controlled by the underbonnet fuse panel, called PSF1 by Citroën/Peugeot and "BSM" by breakers. It's a swappable unit and they can fail causing no wipers - or in some cases, no go altogether. They are readily exchanged after disconnecting the battery for ten or fifteen minutes. A common giveaway that this unit has failed, is repeated blowing of the wiper (or whatever function) fuse on the panel.
